THERE'S NOTHING ROCK N' ROLL ABOUT SUFFERING IN SILENCE SAY LEGENDS SHAUN AND BEZ, Happy Monday legends, Shaun Ryder and Bez are using their trademark straight-talking honesty to urge men to stop suffering in silence., Teaming up with TENA Men, the pair hosted an intimate Manchester event, using humour and honesty to make awkward health conversations feel normal., Their message is simple: getting older doesn't mean slowing down, but being honest about your health is key to keeping life and rock 'n' roll going., Shaun Ryder (63) and Bez (61) spent decades saying exactly what they think and now they're using that same straight-talking honesty to urge men to stop suffering in silence by confronting the embarrassing health taboos too many still avoid., Ahead of their upcoming tour, Happy Mondays icons Shaun Ryder and Bez teamed up with TENA Men and Dr Hillary for an intimate night at Manchester's Smithfield Social, just metres from their old Northern Quarter stomping ground and the legendary Dry Bar., But the conversation was firmly rooted in the here and now with new research from TENA Men revealing that more than 70% of men still rely on humour to deflect serious health issues, while 68% say stigma continues to stop them talking openly., Even more striking, 77% of men don't feel confident confiding in friends or family about bladder issues, despite one in four men over the age of 40 experiencing bladder leaks., However, there is hope, some 57% say they would feel more comfortable talking if they heard other men opening up first and that's exactly why Shaun and Bez have stepped in., With their unfiltered humour and real-life honesty, the pair say they're no medical experts, just mates helping make awkward conversations feel normal, relatable and far easier to have, something they believe all men should do., Shaun said: "Blokes are brilliant at taking the mick out of themselves instead of actually saying what's going on., "You'll joke about it down the pub, but you won't actually sort it. The truth is, we're not 25 anymore, things change. If talking about it helps someone else realise they're not on their own, that's a good thing. There's nothing rock 'n' roll about suffering in silence.”, Bez added: "If me and Shaun can have a laugh about this stuff and still be honest, anyone can., "Most lads just don't want to feel daft or embarrassed, so they keep quiet. But once you start talking, you realise everyone's got something going on. My advice would be don't wait, you don't want to get old and fall apart, you have to act now.”, At the exclusive TENA Men event, the pair also reflected on how, during the 90's they were often taught to tough things out, laugh things off and avoid showing vulnerability, even when health problems begin to affect sleep, confidence and everyday life., Alongside TENA Men, the rock 'n' roll legends are now encouraging men of all ages to open up about their health and take control of their bodies, without embarrassment or silence., The event featured a lively panel discussion led by radio favourites Rob and Nige (Wingman), alongside TV's Dr Hilary, focused on breaking down stigma, encouraging early action and helping men feel confident talking about their bodies without awkwardness., A spokesperson for TENA Men said the research highlights the power of visible role models like Shaun Ryder and Bez in shifting attitudes, adding that while humour can open the door, it's honest conversations that drive real change., Zaid Masud, Brand Manager from TENA Men said: "Although they're celebrities, Shaun and Bez have always been authentic and open and to hear them speak about the realities of ageing with such honesty, and even vulnerability, helps to normalise conversations which many men commonly avoid. This opens doors, breaking the silence around subjects such as bladder health, giving men the confidence to talk and take control and seek help.”, As Shaun and Bez prepare to hit the road for their mammoth UK tour this year, their message is simple, getting older doesn't mean slowing down, but being honest about your health helps you keep doing the things you love., Credit:Jules Annan / Avalon
