The main deities featured in the Rath Yatra festival are Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra (also known as Balarama), and their sister Devi Subhadra. These three deities are carried on chariots during the procession.The festival dates back to the Satya Yuga which pre-dates ancient history. The Festival of the Chariots, also known as Ratha-yatra, or "cart-festival", originates from an ancient tradition in India. It commemorates a joyous celebration of life and glorification of God.
