Pictures must credit: Joby Aviation Airline passengers arriving in the UK will soon be able to take an electric powered flying taxi into the centre of London and Manchester, They will be transported on the aicraft, a mini-helicopter, cutting transfer times to just eight minutes. A deal has been signed by long haul carrier Virgin Atlantic with Californian air taxi developer Joby Aviation. Joby's electric air taxi has six tilting propellers that allow it to take off and land vertically with a fraction of the noise produced by today's helicopters. It is optimised for rapid, back-to-back flights and is expected to be deployed on routes of up to 100 miles. Joby has completed thousands of test flights, including exhibition flights in New York City, Japan and Korea. A journey from London's Heathrow Airport to the finance centre of Canary Wharf in central London would take eight minutes instead of the current 80 minutes by car.
