Pictures must credit: Konstantin Chaykin A watchmaker has created a timepiece said to be the world's thinnest. Independent craftsman Konstantin Chaykin has unveiled a prototype wristwatch called ThinKing that measures just 1.65 mm thick. It comes after luxury label Bulgari unveiled a 1.7 mm watch earlier this year. The ThinKing measures 40mm across and and is crafted out of a special stainless steel with increased hardness that allows it to be worn like a normal watch. It lacks a crystal and is secured to the wrist by a patent-pending alligator leather strap with elastic inserts and flexible titanium supports. For owners worried about how delicate their watch may be on the wrist, Chaykin created a matching protective case, called the "PalanKing” into which the ThinKing can be placed and still worn. It turns the watch into a 5.4mm thick automatic timepiece. The PalanKing case includes mechanisms for winding the watch and adjusting the hands alongside an automatic winding system. TheThinKing has a 204-component movement with 51 jewels and is manually wound with a key that provides 32 hours of power on a full wind. When placed or worn in the PalanKing case the watch becomes automatic and can be set and wound with a crown. The ThinKing weighs just 13.3 grams without the strap.
