On 13 November 2023 in India, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham (in UNICEF T-shirt) poses with children after playing a friendly game of football at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad. During his visit to the University, Mr. Beckham also met youth innovators as well as women entrepreneurs participating in the herSTART programme, who presented their ideas and prototypes at the Vikram Sarabhai Children Innovation Centre (VSCIC) of the Gujarat University Start Up and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC). Mr. Beckham travelled to India this week to meet children and adolescents, including girls who are bringing about change and innovation in their communities, and young women who have overcome barriers to help close gender gaps. During his four-day visit, Beckham saw first-hand how UNICEF-supported programmes are making a difference for girls and women, in partnership with the Government of India. UNICEF and its local partner, Elixir, have collaboratively set up the ‘Gujarat Youth Forum' (GYF) to inspire young people to become change-makers. For the past two years, GYF has worked intensively with young people through various initiatives, programmes and campaigns. Adolescents and young people are one of UNICEF's key partners in achieving results and driving sustainable change.
